The mission of Hosanna Homeschool Choir is to provide a Christ-centered choral music experience for home-schooled students ages 5-18 from the greater Peoria area.

We meet at Woodland Baptist Church in Peoria, IL on Thursdays during the school year at 1:30.  You can register for Fall or Spring semesters, or both.  Fall registration opens in July.  Spring registration opens in December for new students.

Hosanna Homeschool Choir provides a choral music experience for home-schooled children.  Students participate in public performances and gain confidence in their own growing musical competence.  In our four choirs, students learn musical terms and concepts as well as how to participate in a vocal group.

Sonshine Choir (ages 5-6)  1:30-2:15 PM

Celebration Choir (ages 7-9)  1:30-2:30 PM

Jubilee Choir (ages 10-12)  1:30-2:30 PM

Hallelujah Chorus (ages 13+)  2:30-4:00 PM

The choir is organized and directed as a Christian group, although all home-schooled students are welcome to join.  Each year the directors focus on a particular musical thread.

Each of our four choirs is headed by a qualified music director.  Accompanists provide piano support to our students’ singing.  Both directors and accompanists receive a stipend.

Every other aspect of Hosanna Homeschool Choir management is overseen by one or more members of a volunteer board.  Please note every parent is welcome to attend any board meeting.  New board members are welcome.

Mrs. Diane Wier serves as the Sonshine choir director, introducing our youngest singers to the wonder and joys of vocal music. She also assists our junior high and senior high students to participate in district choirs and solo and ensemble contest. In 2003, she and four other moms were instrumental in starting the choir we now call the Hosanna Homeschool Choir. Before taking the role of director, Diane served as board president and the Sonshine choir accompanist for several years.

The daughter of two music teachers, participating in music activities has been a way of life for her. She grew up playing instruments and singing in choirs. Her claim to fame is that she has shared the stage with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki (violin) and Dr. Robert Shaw (vocal conductor). Currently, aside from teaching for Hosanna, she is active in her church’s music programs (worship, kids), plays the piano, and sings in the Peoria Area Civic Chorale.

Diane believes deeply the every child can sing - they just need to be nurtured and encouraged to do so. She enjoys teaching children to work hard, do their best, have fun and “make a joyful noise to the Lord”.  Students in the Sonshine choir participate not only in singing, but also various games and activities to enhance their knowledge and appreciation of music.

Married to the love of her life, Jon, for 26+ years, they had 5 children and live on a farm just outside of Lacon. She has been homeschooling for 20+ years and can’t believe the last two are both in high school! In her spare time, Diane likes to read, bake, craft, drive the combine, take mission trips to Mexico and attend her children’s many activities.

Mrs. Jenny Collins is currently serving as the Jubilee Choir director. During her two years as the accompanist for Jubilee Choir, she began to appreciate this exciting age group of students who are no longer little ones but who are still very young at heart.

Jenny developed a love for music early on and has many fond memories of singing with her mom and sister growing up. She actively participated in music and drama during her high school years. Jenny graduated from Bradley University in 1998 with a degree in education.

Jenny now lives in Elmwood with her husband of (almost) 20 years, Jay, and their four children: Parker, Jackson, Braden, and Olivia. She has been a homeschool mom since 2006 and enjoys being a part of the great homeschool community in the Peoria area.

In her spare time, Jenny enjoys reading, singing, playing the piano, having coffee with friends, and cheering on her kids in all of their activities. Jenny also leads a small group through her church, encouraging and equipping young ladies for family service.

Jenny appreciates Hosanna Homeschool Choir because of the families that comprise it and for the opportunities and friendships that it offers. She counts herself blessed to be able to serve as the Jubilee Choir director and also as choir board president.

Mrs. Rachel Smith has been with Hosanna Homeschool Choir since 2012, when she became the director of Celebration Choir. She thoroughly enjoys her young students, introducing them to reading music and teaching them to sing two-part harmony. She also served as accompanist for Hallelujah Chorus, and just recently become the director of the Hallelujah Chorus as well. She loves working with teens, passionately sharing her love of her Lord and music with them, encouraging sight-singing and good vocal technique.

Rachel has always had a love for music and singing, participating in choirs and playing the piano from a young age. She graduated from Pensacola Christian College in 2007 with a Bachelors in Music and Education. She has a passion for teaching the next generation to “sing to the Lord” and to equip them to use their talents for His glory.

Rachel is the Pastor’s wife at Crossroads Baptist Church in Peoria, and serves as the main pianist for church services. She also directs Christmas cantatas and children’s choirs at her church. In addition to Hosanna, she teaches choirs of all ages at a local Christian school and has several piano students she teaches from home.

After meeting the love of her life at college, she and Pastor Justyn Smith have been happily married for over 11 years. They immediately jumped into ministry life, and traveled in Evangelism for nearly five years, preaching and singing all over the states. The Lord led them back to her husband’s home area in 2012 when her husband became senior Pastor, and Rachel has been active in the Music, Ladies and Children’s Ministries at Crossroads ever since.

Rachel has a passion for homeschoolers because she was homeschooled all the way through K4-12th herself! She and her husband have a toddler that they plan to homeschool as well. Rachel loves helping homeschoolers develop their singing skills and work together to create beautiful music for God’s glory!
